Vaccination against Measles Mumps and Rubella
Going on holiday in the UK or abroad?
Check your children are vaccinated against measles mumps and rubella
Are you planning to go on holidays? Are your child/children up-to-date with their immunisation, including two doses of MMR vaccine?
The local Consultant, Public Health, has asked us to remind you that holidays offer the perfect opportunity for infectious diseases like measles to spread as large numbers of people come into contact with one another over a short period of time. Two doses of MMR vaccine is the safest and most effective way to protect your child/children from measles, mumps and rubella.
In 2018 there were 991 reported cases of measles in England and Wales, compared with 284 in 2017. In the first quarter of 2019 there have been more than 230 cases reported in the UK. 10-15 year old children and younger children are most likely to be affected.
Mumps outbreaks have also been occurring in UK Universities and Secondary schools.
It is never too late to get vaccinated against measles. Contact your GP to get your child vaccinated today unless you are certain that they have had two doses of the combined MMR already.
