Allotment

At Cippenham Nursery School our allotment plays an important role in the children’s learning. Every child is involved in planting, caring and harvesting our fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Together we learn about the life cycle of the seed and how we can propagate the new vegetables. Being outside gardening has huge benefits to our well-being, promoting health through physical activity & healthy eating & living, boosts mental health well-being by building patience, a sense of responsibility and self-esteem and enhancing social skills through team work. It also provides hands on learning opportunities across subjects like science, maths and literacy along with encouraging language and helping children develop a great appreciation for nature and sustainability.

Our Pumpkin Patch

We were very fortunate to have received the helping hands of some amazing parents who kindly gave their time to prepare the ground ready to plant the pumpkins seedlings, to be sowed by the children, in time for the Autumn season. The pumpkin patch was truly a success, we grew 14 beautiful bright pumpkins, which the children firstly loved watching them grow and then picking them for the Halloween activities. We even had our very own scarecrow who kept a watchful eye on the pumpkin patch.
