Cippenham Nursery School

“Happy to be Here, To Play, Learn, Care, Share and Be Ourselves.”

  1. Curriculum
  2. Eco School

Eco School

We have our Eco Schools Distinction award 2023/2024 and actively encourage care for our environment.

Our Eco schools project is used to inform the whole nursery of environmental issues and instigate action in the nursery bringing community cohesion.  We are encouraging the children to embark on a meaningful path to help improve and care for the environment around them. At Cippenham nursery school we hope to start the children on their journey for a sustainable lifestyle.

Climate Aaction Plan

We believe that developing our Climate Action Plan fits with our overarching mission statement for everyone at Cippenham Nursery School to be “Happy to be Here, To Play, Learn, Care Share and Be Ourselves.” Developing an action plan around climate change and sustainability means that we are thinking about how we keep our learners happy and safe, inspire our community to take care of and respect the environment for our learners, build an understanding of our surrounds, learning to live with each other in our environment and are courageous in acting for nature. At Cippenham nursery school we hope to start the children on their journey for a sustainable lifestyle. This action plan is broken down into 5 areas: biodiversity, climate adaptation & resilience, climate education & green skills, decarbonisation and sustainability.

Biodiversity

Our biodiversity plan aims to improve Cippenham Nursery School’s green spaces and local environment to help the planet and encourage learners to spend time in nature. We have already established an outdoor learning space and provide extended learning experiences in the natural environment, including the onsite Forest School and access to an allotment where our school pets live. At Adventurous Acorns Forest School, we passionately believe that children (and adults!) have a right to quality outdoor learning experiences. The forest school sessions embrace the developmental opportunities that our glorious natural playground presents, enabling all learners to connect with nature, whilst engaging through a playful and practical approach and having fun along the way. We also hold a green award as an Eco School and the Eco School project is used to inform the whole nursery of environmental issues and instigate action in the nursery bringing community cohesion.  We are encouraging the children to embark on a meaningful path to help improve and care for the environment around them.  Our biodiversity plans aim to continue to improve the biodiversity across our site and engage with our wider community on our biodiversity goals.

Climate Adaptation & Resilience

These actions examine our school’s preparation for extreme weather events such as flooding and heatwaves which will become more common in the future due to climate change. The actions look at assessing risk and preparing adaptations to become more resilient for the future.

Climate Education

This part of our Climate Action Plan ensures that our sustainability progress feeds into our teaching and learning across the curriculum. These actions will help our learners to become aware of sustainability issues, develop green skills and be prepared for climate careers.

Decarbonization

These actions explore our use of energy, transport and food as well as the waste we make. The actions will help us work towards decarbonising our site.

Sustainability

Making commitments to progress on sustainability with key decision-makers within our governance structure will help to implement sustainability projects more effectively. This will help us to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and inspire participation and engagement from our community. It can also help us secure resources and funding for projects. We have already nominated Mrs Kate Lacey as our sustainability lead for this.
